This past week on August 27, 2014 was YouthWorks Employer Recognition Ceremony. Held at the Christian Converge Center on Main St. in Brockton, the event is meant to recognize employers who were instrumental in the success of Summer Jobs 2014.
The event started with breakfast and networking, followed by opening remarks from Mayor Bill Carpenter. The Mayor spoke of the importance of early work experience and mentioned the success of the Summer Parks Program run out of his office which took on youth from the Summer Jobs program to help run it.
Next, we heard an Employer Testimonial from Royale L’Radin of Derape Prouctions. He spoke about the importance of the Summer Jobs program, its place in the community and how it was the responsibility of employers to provide opportunities for youth. He also spoke very highly of his summer intern, Wedison Jean. He was surprised a 16 year-old could bring such value to his company, and finished up saying that he wished he could have had him for longer. Wedison performed video editing, blog writing/editing and social media management for Derape Productions.
Certificates of recognition were given out at the end to employers for participating in the program and specific awards were given to Employers who were particularly supportive of the program.
